X traffic dump - UNIX Programming

Hi all, How can I get a dump of the traffic going to/from my X server? I'm not interested in passwd sniffers, I want to see ALL the X packets so I can debug my X app. Any info/pointers muchly appreciated. SCoTT. :)...

    Hi all,

    Hmmm, it appears a bit outdated - only works with X11R5.
    I tried compiling it on my RH9 system (X11R6) but I get quite a
    few errors.

    Is there a more up-to-date version around somewhere? - google
    doesn't list it.

    There's a much newer version that works with X11R6 and many later
    extensions available via CVS - see http://keithp.com/cvs.html

    Well this version compiles at least, but I get a problem when
    I try & connect an X app to it:

    ../xscope&
    rxvt -display aaopcnss:1

    The output of xscope is:

    0.00: Client 1 --> 12 bytes
    byte-order: LSB first
    major-version: 000b
    minor-version: 0000
    0.01: 32 bytes <-- X11 Server 1
    SetUp Failed:
    major-version: 000b
    minor-version: 0000
    reason: "No protocol specified^J"
    0.01: Client 1 --> EOF

    Any further pointers muchly appreciated.

    The typical security settings for X are tighter now than
    they were in 1988. :-p

    Try "xhost +localhost" first. You can presumably also
    make it work by fussing with xauth.
