Xcode with Perforce doesn't work - Mac Programming

I want to use Xcode with a Perforce SCM. Did anyone do that? How? When I create a new project and open the project's info dialog (select the first group and type command-i), I see a popup at the bottom under the 'General'-tab labelled 'SCM System'. When I switch that to 'Perforce', Xcode hangs. You know, spinning beachball without end. Do I have do install anything first? (I mean, except for the Perforce server. My company is already running one.) Is there a step-by-step manual somewhere? I don't find any info in manuals, websites or newsgroups. I'm running Xcode 1.1 ...

Default Xcode with Perforce doesn't work

I want to use Xcode with a Perforce SCM. Did anyone do that? How?

When I create a new project and open the project's info dialog (select
the first group and type command-i), I see a popup at the bottom under
the 'General'-tab labelled 'SCM System'. When I switch that to
'Perforce', Xcode hangs. You know, spinning beachball without end.

Do I have do install anything first? (I mean, except for the Perforce
server. My company is already running one.) Is there a step-by-step
manual somewhere? I don't find any info in manuals, websites or
newsgroups. I'm running Xcode 1.1 on MacOSX 10.3.2

    Thanks,

I am having exactly the same results which is frustrating. I love
Perforce and I'm just getting in to Xcode. would love to be able to
use it. But freezing xcode isn't exactly what I had in mind. Anyone
know the secret to make this work?

I had this problem and found a solution on perforce web site.

You have to change flags on the p4 file.

In Terminal execute the following command:
    sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/p4
Type in your password and that should fix it.

Then open your project and you should be able to enable Perforce as a
    SCM system.
You may need to click Edit... button and enter P4PORT and P4CLIENT
values in order p4 to start up.

    Hope this helps.
