XCode won't build anything - Mac Programming

Hello All, Just got a dual G5 with 10.3.2 on board. It didn't come with Xcode in the box, so I installed the developer disk from my 10.3 install disks. Nothing would link, I consistently get a link error "can't locate file for: -|crt1.o" the first character after the dash appears to be shift - backslash. I have seen references to this "crt1" before on this list, and it looks like a gcc code, but I don't know what file it's looking for. Default XCode won't build anything

    Hello All,

Just got a dual G5 with 10.3.2 on board. It didn't come with Xcode in
the box, so I installed the developer disk from my 10.3 install disks.

Nothing would link, I consistently get a link error "can't locate file
for: -|crt1.o" the first character after the dash appears to be shift
    - backslash. I have seen references to this "crt1" before on this
list, and it looks like a gcc code, but I don't know what file it's
    looking for.

I upgraded the XCode from Apple last night, and it didn't help the
problem. None of the samples will build. I have not upgraded the
machine to 10.3.3 because I have a dreadfully slow internet connection
and I can't download something that big. The 16M XCode upgrade took
    three hours!

    Java apps have same error.

    What's going on here?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, you'll need the full Xcode Tools 1.1 CD. The 16 MB
update only updates the Xcode IDE itself, not the compiler or low-level
libraries. Go to <http://connect.apple.com/> and download the segments
for the Xcode Tools 1.1 CD. It'll take a long time over your
connection, but when you have the whole thing it'll work.

If you'd prefer to not download something that big, you can also order
the CD from Apple for something like $20.

Turns out that the developer tools are already ON the disk drive -
    under "/Applications/Installers/Xcode Tools"

A note in the root directory would've been nice.

    *sigh*
