XML, Uploads and CFFILE - Coldfusion - Advanced Techniques

    Default XML, Uploads and CFFILE

I've been out of the loop since the intro of 6.1 and new to XML so please bear
with any lack of knowledge on my part.

I have a client that would like some web services developed; one of the web
services they would like is a File Upload web service.

The client will be using MS InfoPath to develop their interface and will be
passing information to the web services via XML.

Within the File Upload web service they would like dynamically created
directories, based upon multiple database tables, to store the files.

This is where I'm a little confused - not with the dynamic directory creation
but - if the user will be providing the form via MS InfoPath and passing
everything to the File Upload web service via XML - how do I provide the value
for the 'fileField' attribute for cffile action=upload?

Is it possible to use XML to upload a file?

    Thanks in advance,

'filefield' is a variable CF allows you to reference as part of a form post
w/enctype="multipart/form-data". This has nothing to do with a web service.

If you're looking to upload a file via a web service, you'd have to pass the
raw data as a string or bit stream and then have the web service write it out
to a file on the server.

Not sure why you're trying to use xml to pass file data???

Can you provide more info around what exactly the client is looking for. I'm
not familiar w/MS InfoPath, so if I'm missing something here, please explain.

Is the question, can I upload a file with a CFC? It happens that the file
has XML data. The answer should be yes ... once you know how to pass that
filefield into the CFC. This is not simply passing the string. I used
answers from a few threads and some internet searches. If I remember
correctly, it is either using form.filefield or using # around filefield, or
    #form.filefield#. hth
