Default XP Firewall and Network Printing.

    Hello,

After testing Internet Connection Firewall in Windows XP
Professional, we found that we are unable to print to a
shared printer off of a Windows Server 2000/2003 with the
firewall enabled. What ports would we have to add in the
advanced settings to make this function properly? I've
tried ports 92,170,515, etc., but have been unsucessful.

    Thanks for your time,
    Tony

XP's Internet Connection Firewall (notice its name!) is designed for
use only on a direct modem connection to the Internet. It serves no
useful purpose on a local area network connection, and the best
    solution is to disable it.

    Hi Steve,

    I appreciate that information.

Unfortunately, we have a lot of mobile users, and rather
than having them enable the firewall at their home
office, and disabling when they come to central offices
is not really a viable option.

Perhaps we'll have to investigate a 3rd party solution.
I noted everything seems to work fine with Norton
Internet Security and Zone Alarm, so it must be a port
    issue?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tony

If you have a domain at work you can use group policy to disable the
firewall when they are at work and have it run when they are at home.
