XP Networking frustration
Per SW vendor request I had to move a shared folder from a
2000 Server to an XP Pro share on the local domain.
Share was setup with full control permission to everyone,
same with security. All W2000 Pro and W98 workstations
access the files with no problems, one XP Pro workstation
has no problem, One XP Pro Workstation is driving me up
the wall. I have reset usernames, made the user a domain
admin, added the name to the XP sharing machine, unshared,
reshared, turned off simple file sharing, turned it back
on, rebooting even more often that Microsoft asks me to.
I still get the message "Unable to access. You may not
have permission to access this network resource.
I can access the share from another computer using the
user name from the problem machine, so it is not the
username. Using another systems user name I also get the
access denial.
I have tried the solutions in MS's knowledge base, which
reference resetting security Ids which XP associates with
the shared folder, but still no luck.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: XP Networking frustration
If the folder is on an NTFS drive, you will need to make sure that the file
system permissions are set appropriately also. Even if the share
permissions are open enough, if the file system permissions are locked down
for that user or a group that user is in, then they will not be able to
access it.
