Re: You really can't specify a folder on upload??
Hi Rhecel, I am hoping that you, or someone, can help me with NOT placing .doc
and .pdf documents in the same file. I need these documents to go to different
folders from one another (a pdf folder and a docs folder is what I prefer). Is
there anyway to separate the two? I was so excited to see the changes in this
area with Contribute 3, but cannot figure out why it seems hard coded in the
placement of these two file types in the same directory. Thanks! Suzanne

Re: You really can't specify a folder on upload??
Open Contribute as admin and choose the role in which you want to
create separate folders for docs and for pdfs. Click the Edit Role
Settings button then choose the File Placement option on the left menu.
Delete the default rule for All Micorsoft and PDF files. Then click
the Add button and add the 2 doc types separately (.doc and .pdf) and
you can then choose where you want to save these (and any other) file
types. Click OK to exit and save the changes.

I've also found this a problem and posted a similar issue (see links to
external files). The inflexibility of Contribute (albeit 'idiot proof') is
making the software completely unuseable. It needs to either be marketed
differently or redesigned - as it only seems to be useful only for the smallest
& most & simple of websites.

Re: You really can't specify a folder on upload??
Has there been any any update to this problem? We change the PDF documents on
a regular basis on our site. We want to be able to change just the PDF but when
it is published it moves the document from the origional location and renames
it.

Re: You really can't specify a folder on upload??
:Q We need Contribute 3 to allow for the fact that some of our users are quite
intelligent and know when a linked file should remain on our file server and
when it should be upload to the web server.
We must be able to disable the default file placement functionality so that
when we choose to link to a file on our domain file server Contribute does NOT
upload a copy to the web server, otherwise our Intranet is out-of-date
immediately a user updates the shared document on the file server :(

I was also dissapointed to find out that we are still unable to be specifically place files anywhere in the filesystem we choose.
I'm not sure I understand the rationale for this?

Re: You really can't specify a folder on upload??
Not to insult anyone... but it seems rather apparent that Contribute is only a
"Web editor for dummy's" program." Any expectations of it for file or content
management are absurd.
As a Web editor for non-web people, it works quite well.
Maybe the Marketing folks got over-enthusiastic? <doh>
