    Default Zoom Bug?

InDesign CS 3.01, August patch, Windows 2000

Years ago I adopted the habit of zooming with Ctrl-Spacebar and the
mouse to select the area. This has always worked fine in all Adobe
programs, including PageMaker, Illustrator, Photoshop, and previous
    versions of InDesign.

With CS I have a weird thing happening. When I try to zoom this way it
zooms at the point where the text cursor is located, not the area I
    selected with the mouse.

Suppose, for example, I'm tidying up a document. I'm paging through,
looking for errors of layout, etc. Every couple pages I find something
in the text that needs fixing, so I stop and fix it. Then I page ahead
a couple pages, forgetting that I left the cursor in the location
where I last fixed something. I spot some text that needs fixing. I
decided to zoom in on it and hit Ctrl-Spacebar, grab the mouse, and
select the area. Bam! I'm suddenly transported two pages back and it
zooms on the area where I left the cursor, not the area I selected.

I think this is a bug, because for a brief instant before I'm
transported to where I left the cursor, it does zoom on the area I
selected. It's so fast I can barely catch it, but I'm sure I've seen
it work properly before moving me to the cursor position. And when it
zooms on the area where I left the cursor, the zoom area is the same
size as the area I selected.

If I remember to place the cursor in the middle of the area I want to
zoom on, it works fine. It also works fine if I do not have the text
    tool selected.

CS has done this since I first installed it. At first I thought it
might be because I was working only in documents created originally in
2.0. But for the past month I have been working only on documents
created de novo in CS, and it's still doing it. I was hoping the
August patch might address this, but no joy.

I asked here once before and got no responses. Am I the only one
    experiencing this?

    Default Re: Zoom bug?

I don't get it - ctrl/space for zoom in and crtl/alt/space for zoom out works exactly as it did in PM whether you have the text cursor or any other tool selected.
(XP pro, IDCS 3.0.1 no august patch.)
