Do you spend minimum three hours lurking on Google Reader? Do you StumbleUpon a LOT in the anticipation of finding great content. Do you read Wikipedia even when you are not going to need the information ever? If you have answered Yes to all the questions then there is a high probability that you are an information whore. Let me just make it calm because this is not odd and there are thousands of people like you who do exactly the same thing. I thought it would be nice to share some Firefox extensions with you, which I believe will let you do more in less time and that’s saying that you would be able to waste your time on more things in the same time.

Some of the essential add-ons for Firefox would be:
Ubiquity: If you want to install just one extension in your Firefox then this is it.The Mozilla labs product can do alone what about 20 Firefox extensions would. This extension lets users to give commands by typing in and thus connects web with language. You can submit a story on digg, post tweets, translate text, get word meanings, add events to your google calendar, search on wikipedia and I have just started. The Mozilla developers continuously update this extension and add more features to it.
SageToo: This light weight RSS extension can fetch the desired information right into your browser without you having to lurk around Google Reader. There are other similar extensions as well which can do the same job almost as well, but what makes Sage different from its peers is the News Reader layout.

It started with a need because the PC I currently use is mere 15 inches while the Operating System I use is Linux Ubuntu. Now, when I use the best browser in the world, Firefox on such a machine it drastically decreases the screen size. First of all there are those two task bars in Ubuntu and then there’s StumbleUpon toolbar, Bookmarks toolbar alongwith SEOQuake which I use quite regularly.

After all of this what I get to see is zilch in comparison to the 17 inch LCD monitor I use at home. So I thought about tweaking Firefox in order to make save some real estate. There are some Firefox extensions which you may try to save some space for browsing.
Let’s shrink Firefox a little.
You will need few extensions and a compact theme to do it.
1. Classic Compact Theme precisely goes by its name. It’s the most compact and minimalist theme compatible with Firefox 3. It’s an ugly theme but when your priority is to save screen space then it’s wise not to think about beauty and aesthetics.
2. You will then shrink or just compartmentalize the Menu by installing Personal Menu Firefox extension. This extension will just add an icon which you can use to access your menu. You shouldn’t install an extension called Tiny Menu with it because it caused some incompatibility issues.

I am making this post with this preoccupation that most of our viewers use gmail and if you happen to be the one who don’t then I would insist you start using gmail. Inspite of all the disappointment that we saw in last few weeks after Gmail inadvertently closed accounts of few Gmail users, we still have a reason to believe that Gmail is our best bet. If we just just use some Firefox extensions along with it then it would make for a killer combination. Here are some of the Firefox 3 extensions which add some additiuonal functionality to your Gmail and in this process make it more compelling.

Gmail Notifier : Gmail Notifier Firefox Add-on allows you to monitor multiple Gmail accounts right inside your browser’s interface. It is pretty useful if you have multiple gmail accounts.
Better Gmail 2: Better Gmail 2 is a firefox extension that adds features to the new gmail interface. Better Gmail 2 is a set of Greasemonkey user scripts that add up individual features to the Gmail in order to perform functions you can’t do otherwise.
Gmail Manager: Gmail Manager is a Firefox extension that allows you to manage multiple gmail accounts and receive new mail notifications. It can display account details like unread messages, spam messages, saved drafts, labels with new mail, space used and new mail snippet.

Firefox is definitely a fast web browser but if you are using insane amount of add-ons then you might have to look for ways which are not very obvious in order to boost the speed of Mozilla Firefox. Most of the following tricks employ tweaking the about:config entries which might void your Firefox warranty, so faint hearted should bother not use this.
1. Type about:config in the address bar, double-click network.http.pipelining and network.http.proxy.pipelining so their values are set to true, then double-click network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and set this to 8.
2. Type about:config and press enter, then right-click somewhere in the window and select New > Integer. Type content.notify.interval as your preference name, click OK, enter 500000 and click OK again.
3. Right-click again in the window and select New > Boolean. This time create a value called content.notify.ontimer and set it to True to finish the job.
4. Type about:config and press enter, right-click in the window and select New > Integer. Type content.switch.threshold, click OK, enter 250000 and click OK to finish.
5. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to 0. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
These tweks should speed up your Firefox and if you experience any problem then please reset the settings.

Q. I don’t like advertisements on websites. How can I surf the web without getting annoyed by the flashy, unwanted banner advertisements that suck a considerable part of my bandwidth ?
A. A simple answer for this difficult question would be to use Mozilla Firefox Web Browser & install the Ad Blocking extensions. We have tried almost every other Ad Blocking tool (including the inbuilt windows firewall) for Internet Explorer. They are unreliable, inefficient & consumes a lot of memory & other system resources.
The Firefox Banner Ad Blocking plugins available now are more convenient & efficient than the Ad Blocking tools made for Microsoft IE. Today we will be presenting such 5 Firefox extensions that can be used for blocking banner ads and/or images on Firefox. However it should be noted that using too many firefox extensions simultaneously shall consume a lot of system resources & you might just lose some data.
1 AdBlock Plus: It is a popular Ad Blocker extension for Mozilla Firefox. It allows you getting rid of the banner advertisements in just a few easy steps.

Although most of themes are just the same as it was in previous version of Firefox but this list makes sense because not many developers have updated their themes. Most users tend to stylize their Firefox browser to give it a personal touch.
Some of my favorite Firefox themes are not compatible with Firefox 3 now so I had to find some other decent themes if not better which I could use.
Classic Compact is the theme for you if you have small screens as it has been made as compact as possible without harming usability. The icons might appear very clamped and cluttered in a small tool bar but I believe if real estate is the priority then you can overlook it. I love its scroll bar.

Camifox is the theme I am using at the moment (home PC) and it is pretty clean with apposite pixels provided to each icon on the toolbar. You will not see a lot of difference from the default Firefox them except the Camino icons.

iFox Smooth is a very famous theme among firefox users because of its Safari like simplicity and Riz (its creator) was quick to update it by the launch of firefox 3.
