I have been using Windows Seven Beta for last three days and I have thoroughly enjoyed working on it and playing with its awesome taskbar. I wanted to have the first hand experience so I installed it natively on hard disk instead of trying it using VMWare or other Virtualization softwares.

The installation was pretty smooth and I think Windows has really worked hard in keeping the installation time as less as possible. The installation took me around 25 minutes and I would even go as far to say that it was by far the best installation of any Operating System and that includes Linux Ubuntu. This is bound to cause some sensation amongst the Ubuntu users but guys, Windows has always been ruthless against its competition and Windows Seven seems like Microsoft’s arsenal to thwart the increasing competition.

As I said the installation was painless and I didn’t felt the need to install sound and graphic drivers while the Bluetooth drivers that came with my Dell Inspiron 1525 for Windows Vista didn’t work. Some of the applications.

There are not many significant changes in Windows Seven from the Windows Vista but the notable improvements if I may say are the introduction of better taskbar which handles your tasks more effectively now.The introduction of new bootscreen, login screen is indeed welcome. The major enhancements has been of the interface type but surprisingly the recommended system requiremenst of Windows Seven Beta is less than that of Windows Vista.

The mouse gestures are better utilized in Windows Seven which reduces the number of clicks. For instance, you can see the running applications by just moving your cursor on the taskbar. If you happen to use more than two monitors then you’d love the vastly simplified System panel. You no longer have to spend fifteen minutes in order to connect your PC with a projector. There is better management of themes and wallpapers along with the all the customization freedom given in Windows Vista.

I would encourage you all to give Windows Seven Beta a try before its download goes offline after February 10. Since I use quite a lot of desktop application so I came to know that certain applications are not as smoothly compatible with Windows Seven as they were with Windows Vista or XP. Some of the applications which worked crudely were Evernote and GOM player. I believe almost all the other apps worked pretty fine.

This has to be one of the most promising Operating System by Windows since Windows XP and the timing is crucial because its competitor Google is taking things online while Microsoft still thinks that the demand of Operating System shall remain promising. I however missed the incorporation of Live Mesh which is Microsoft’s lethal weapon against Google’s inevitable “all things online with browser aloneĀ  approach.”
