September 22nd, 20086 Brilliant WordPress Themes For Video Blogs or Vlogs
Many video bloggers have voiced that there are hardly any good WordPress themes for vlogs. It is definitely one area where developers have not paid much attention while the demand for video blog themes is not great either. It could be the result of this mismatch of demand and supply that there are hardly any WordPress theme for vloggers.
We tried to find some WordPress themes for vloggers, we knew all along that there are very few of them but we had no idea that some of them are just brilliant. There were hardly any free themes for video bloggers though but if you can say “I would so want to use it for my podcast’s website/blog.” then you might get a free theme for your vlog as well. More on that later, let’s find out some themes which you can install on your vlog right now.
Video
Video is a dark WordPress Theme for WordPress created by the team over at Quommunication. It has some really cool features which you might not have seen in any other blog . It has an AJAX customizable episode list for the videos which will definitely save some time for the users while it enhances the user experience as well. The layout is neat and clean and it is fully W3C standards compliant. The best thing about this theme is the live preview of comments which was made possible with AJAX Commenting System. Users can post comments even when the video is on.
tv.elements
TV Elements is again a very video centric WordPress theme where all it takes is embedding the code of video and publish. The vimeo videos look particularly good on this theme while it’s high time that youtube should also start thinking about improving the quality of videos. The theme is obviously nice and you also get the theme in a light color scheme with the package. You get four sidebars which you can configure the way you desire. The social link on each video allows users to copy and embed videos on their sites by clicking the “embed” button beside each video. The theme supports v2.3 and above only.
On Demand
This theme keeps the focus on Videos while users can rate them as well. It is fully compatible with IE, Firefox 2 and above, Safari etc. The videos up to 1024px wide can be run on this one as claimed by the developer. It integrates video and standard blogging in one single package. The theme has 4 unique sidebars, all of which can be configured separately using the standard WordPress widget interface.
Video Elements
Video Elements is also from the same creators who gave us tv.elements and the On Demand theme. This theme has two different layout styles, one is the traditional linear layout and the other is an optional gallery layout. The videos open up in an AJAX window which leaves the rest of the screen dim. It has a fully customizable and widget ready sidebar.
Video Flick
Video Flick has four layout and color styles:dark and light color scheme, as well as portrait and landscape thumbnail layout while the theme is completely widget ready. It is compatible with most web browsers including FireFox 2, IE6.0 and above, Safari and Opera.
High-Def
Hi-Def is not grim and dark unlike other WordPress themes mentioned so far. It has a built in HD video player with full screen video display. It has a sliding content region in the top which is pretty Mac-style. The footer is wide like we see in the blogs of big blogging networks. It has integrated advertising spots while it is compatible with most browsers.
All the above mentioned themes were premium and I couldn’t find any decent free WordPress theme for vloggers. However, I did bump into a blogger’s post where he is saying that he would make the following theme and give it for free. Looks nice. Just post some comments on his blog so that he makes it quickly.

I’d like to convert my video site to a wordpress blog using your skins.
Can I ad adsense and affiliate ads to these skins?
Particularly the On Demand skin… I would like to have each individual video page to show a video and adsense / affiliate ads.
Is that possible?

On surface these look good, but take on demand for example, when you actually use it the navigation arrangement is terrible, I have seen people struggle to figure it out…it does several weird things also like post blank video boxes when it needs to refer to written blogs in the index panel. Its messy, style over usability.
I reckon people throw these things togeteher to look alright and catch the eye, but they need to actually think of the design interaction, test them on a cross section of people, and not be too proud to change and adapt.

Those who purchase these themes should play around with the coding after purchase. Once something goes wrong, you’re on your own.
